Bus Travel in Mexico is a comfortable and cheap way to move about and is definitely a good option if you want to save your pennies. Whilst many journeys around Mexico can take up the bulk of your day, where possible you can take a night bus and save on one night's accommodationt too. Other journeys offer spectacular views so are well worth embarking on in daylight - especially those from Oaxaca towards the coast.
Oaxaca has two main bus stations from where you can pretty much get anywhere in the country - just make sure you know which one you're going to first so you don't miss that bus!
Bus Travel in Mexico: Bus Terminals in Oaxaca
Terminal de Autobuses de Primera Clase
Deluxe and first class Mexican bus services depart from this station, including those owned by Grupo ADO (UNO and Omnibús Cristobal Colón), Sur and AU. The station is found just 2km northeast of the Oaxaca Zócalo. Most long distance trips will leave from here.

Terminal de Autobuses de Segunda Clase
Less fancy companies operate from the Second Class bus station and this is the best place to catch buses coastal destinations like Puerto Escondido and local villages in the Valles Centrales. Longer journeys can be started here, however, routes include lots more stops and take far longer than the same journeys from the First Class Bus Station. The Second Class station is found 1km west of the Oaxaca Zócalo.
